New bridges are a golden opportunity for the Exeter Ship Canal which passes under the A379 (Bridge Road)

Raising the bridges on the A379 across Exeter Ship Canal could be the biggest boost to the use and navigation of the canal for over half a century. But we are having to argue very hard indeed that the proposed new bridges should be raised to provide a higher draught for boats.

The Friends and Inland Waterways Association are campaigning for a game-changing 3 metre air draft. It is a golden opportunity for new business growth, cleaner environment and road safety and we mustn’t let it slip. Our campaign is reaching councillors, water users, and pedestrians and cyclists using the towpath.
